In collaboration with the Dutch ministry for public health, ZonMw has been conducting research with academics and think tanks into the causes of excess deaths during the COVID pandemic.

On March 5th, the team from the Research Centre for Longevity Risk was delighted to attend ZonMw’s conference and hear presentations on how events contributed to excess deaths and how the COVID pandemic impacted different groups in Dutch society. During the day, there were presentations on:

  • Deferred care and access to care
  • Vulnerable groups
  • Vaccinations
  • Socio-economic inequalities

Dr. Frank van Berkum and Dr. Irene Simonetti were proud to present preliminary findings and discuss results from RCLR’s recent research on “The effect of socio-economic characteristics, vaccination information and geographical location on excess mortality from specific causes during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands”.

On April 18, we will be organising a workshop in Amsterdam where Frank and Irene will be presenting our research in more detail. You can read more about the event and register by clicking on the LINK
